Splendor of the Sun - Group Exhibition: Curated by Zoie Yung

Galerie du Monde is delighted to present group exhibition “Splendor of the Sun” from 5 January to 25 February 2023 — curated by Zoie Yung, featuring new works by 12 artists. Inspired by the manuscripts of early scientific observations of the alchemist, Splendor of the Sun aims to draw an aesthetic parallel in contemporary art.

25 February – The closing day of the exhibition is deemed as an auspicious day for reunion among friends and families according to the Chinese almanac calendar (Tung Shing). 5 local artists are invited to share insights on their experiences in participating in group exhibitions, and their impact on one’s artistic practice.

 

About the Curator — 

 Zoie Yung is an independent exhibition and art-marketing consultant, former exhibition manager of chi K11 art museum, Shanghai. She is one of the awardee of The HKADC Arts Administration Scholarships 2022 and currently studying for MA Museum Studies at University of Leicester.  She provides a unique approach to exhibition production by combining practice in exhibition spatial arrangement and her knowledge in Chinese astrology. Apart from exhibition production, she also hosts public engagement programs and contributes art articles to magazines. Recent exhibitions include Splendour of the Sun, Galerie du Monde (2023), Wonder-verse (2022), chi K11 art space Hong Kong and Curve of Buoyancy (2021), Duddell’s, Hong Kong. Recently hosted talks with JC Contemporary, Para/Site Art Space, 1a Space and Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre. Recently published articles can be found in Numéro art China.

 

Exhibition Architect — 

Charles Lai is an architect (RIBA) and researcher in the history and conservation of Hong Kong and Asian modern architecture. He received his PhD degree in architectural history from the University of Hong Kong Department of Architecture, and diploma degree from the AA School of Architecture in London. He currently teaches at the PolyU and the HKU Space. Charles is also a member of the DOCOMOMO HK Chapter. Charles is founder and director of the architectural studio & conservation consultancy, CLAA, and co-founder of a digital marketing and experience curatorial company Culture Lab. and focuses primarily on design, conservation, research and curatorial works related to built heritage and architectural history. Charles also writes regularly for academic journals and columns. His research interests include the history of modern architecture in East and Southeast Asia, the material culture and history of Shanghai plaster, as well as the conservation of historical built heritages.
