Discover the significant collection of contemporary British art held at the British Museum through a selection of around 100 prints and drawings, dating from 1960 to today.

Themes of gender, identity, and individualism are examined through a lens of empathy and respect, offering a new way to consider preconceived notions of how we—and others—present to the world within the context of society and culture today.

Join us on Saturday 9 March, 6–8pm at our New York gallery for a special performance by Grammy nominated tenor Nicholas Phan and Lutenist Joshua Stauffer. Their program is inspired by Sarah Ball's solo exhibition 'Tilted', as part of our new event series, InterPlay.⁠ ⁠

Born in South Yorkshire and based in Cornwall, the British artist paints family friends, people she meets through street casting and young urban dwellers she finds on Instagram. 

Group exhibition 'I'm Stepping High, I'm Drifting, and There I Go Leaping' at Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art features 65 works by 49 female and gender-nonconforming artists around the world. Curated by Weng Xiaoyu, the presentation focuses primarily on the medium of painting and works made in the past five years.

This catalogue was published on the occasion of Sarah Ball's solo exhibition at Stephen Friedman Gallery in 2022. Designed by Atelier Dyakova, the monograph spans the last five years of the artist’s practice and features essays by Flavia Frigeri (curator, National Portrait Gallery, London) and Philomena Epps (writer)

'Infinite Woman' investigates a spectrum of female stereotypes, and their relationship to art. Ideas of the siren, mother, goddess, demon, caregiver and lover, among others, are explored, examined and disrupted. 

Art on a Postcard has launched its second guest postcard auction in collaboration with War Child. 

'From the Ashes' is a project launched in aid of the Amazon. Migrate Art have created art materials, like paint, ink, pigment and pastels, with ashes salvaged from deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, and have commissioned contemporary artists to use these to create works. The artworks will be auctioned at Christie's in aid of Migrate's work.

We are pleased to share some of our latest public acquisitions, spanning globally significant collections in Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.

Presenting rotating exhibitions and viewable storage of the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, The Bunker showcases a wide range of contemporary art by both well-known and emerging artists, displayed alongside iconic pieces of furniture and other curiosities. The collection champions emerging, and at times, overlooked artists, especially in the early stages of their careers, and so the Bunker offers insight into a truly unique collection.

Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a group exhibition of artists from its roster for Art Basel Miami Beach. Bringing together new sculptures, paintings and works on paper, the exhibition demonstrates the global breadth of the gallery programme. Incorporated in the exhibition will be a separate solo presentation for Kabinett by Japanese artist Izumi Kato.

'Being In the World' marks the tenth anniversary of Long Museum. Curated by Iwona Blazwick, the group show is conceived as an artistic celebration of returning to 'the world' in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.⁠

Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a group exhibition focused on painting for West Bund Art & Design 2022. The exhibition explores how each artist interprets the medium – from the precise, observational quality of Ball and Walker’s paintings to Forrester’s energetic brushstrokes, Shonibare’s exuberant hand-painted ‘batik’ patterns and the imaginary narratives created by Andersson and Rothenstein.

Demonstrating an acute sensitivity to the psyche of her subjects, she emphasises physical characteristics that define how we outwardly portray ourselves to the world. 

For this exhibition British artist Sarah Ball draws on historical photographs to create works that reflect on issues of bias, prejudice and prejudgement.
